The International Girls Academy Ujiaama Fellowship Program Powered by Intuit
The International Girls Academy prides itself on helping the next generation of girls achieve their dreams through the instruction and practice of the Nuguzo Saba, the Seven Principles. The International Girls Academy piloted four programs this school year: Ujamaa, Kuumba, Ujima, and Nia Global Fellowship programs. With the support of Intuit through the Ujamma and Media Fellowship program, where students were able to develop their podcasts, businesses, and photo books.
We presented certificates of completion to 2,000 girls this school year. Students had the opportunity to develop, pitch, and implement their own businesses, podcasts, and E-books. Students learned skills ranging from public speaking, product development, sourcing resources, writing, editing, producing, mixing, and more!
This program wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Intuit! The students worked diligently for 12 weeks to develop their business ideas from A to Z with the help of guest speakers, mentors, volunteers, and board members.
One of the goals of the fellowship program was to empower students to understand that there are no limitations, only the ones that they make.
“I joined the International Girls Academy program to help master my fear of public speaking because I thought I wasn’t good enough to speak in front of people, but through practicing and doing our practice pitch competitions with The International Girls Academy, I was able to feel confident to speak in front of my peers, and I really enjoyed IGA.”
Sussan Grace, Fourth Grader
“When Developing the pilot fellowship program, it was vital to make sure we met the needs of the students by not only providing opportunities to the next generation but making sure the girls felt supported during the process. The International Girls Academy would like to personally thank Intuit for this partnership opportunity. Because of your support, each student receives a stipend for their participation in the fellowship program and gift cards to assist with their businesses. Thank You!”
